I'm Courtney!

It took years of feeling dissatisfied and not knowing where I “fit in” before I finally realized that not belonging isn’t always a bad thing; Instead of growing roots, forming attachments to people, things and places, I grew wings.

Although my passion for traveling hasn’t always been as strong as it is today, I can remember days in my childhood years where I would pack and unpack suitcases as if I was preparing to leave. Eventually this unusual form of entertainment developed into a greater understood interest, bringing us to Gypsy Quartz--Gypsy defined as a free-spirited nomad, and Quartz being the “Universal Crystal” due to all its healing powers.

My love for traveling goes beyond the stereotypical vacation view, seeing travel as an escape from everyday stressors. It took a few times of being asked “Why do you want to travel so bad?” before I could give an answer that I took pride in--a response that encompassed all my jumbled thoughts. Before I would say something along the lines of “I only have one life, and traveling is the best way to experience as much of it as possible.” Now, it’s “Traveling--the type where you intermingle with other cultures, not the secluded, luxurious type--gives people knowledge of the variety of ways specific things can be done. My goal is to share with this judgemental and ethnocentric society what I learn about different cultures in hopes to make people realize there is no right or wrong way of living, but multiple ways with minimal and drastic differences in lifestyle preferences.

I will be majoring in anthropology in the next couple years with a minor in personal nutrition. From there I hope to join the Peace Corps, or other service, and teach nutrition, but also learn about unfamiliar lifestyles.  Ultimately, I want to start a travel magazine that strays from the typical "beachy getaway" and tourist attractions, and instead focuses on topics and events relevant to unique cultures. I hope to teach fellow travelers how to intermingle within a particular culture or just inspire people to do what they love--even if it means sacrificing a paycheck or achieving the seemingly impossible.

My blog differs from most blogs in that it includes a minimalist aspect, ultimately giving readers the wings that will free them from the constant rushed feeling and attachment that come with a traditional lifestyle.
